SETTING INTENTIONS… INTENTIONALLY

by Team Broady on Wednesday, January 4, 2023

Setting intentions can be traced back to the dawn of human existence. Even the most primitive humans instinctively set intentions in order to survive. As humans have evolved, so have their intentions. They may be as adventurous as setting sail towards a new land or as serene as some introspection about one’s behaviour and values. At the end of the day, the “power of intention” involves directing energy to a place where coincidence and destiny collide. Intention-setting is a practice that many of us are familiar with, but at times may find challenging. When we set an intention, we're directing our energy toward a goal and saying: “I want this!”

Be Clear On What We Want

The first step in setting an intention is to be clear on what we want, and why we want it. The clearer the picture of our goal, the more likely we are to achieve it. Try to focus on what matters most in life. We should ask ourselves questions like: “What do I love doing? What am I good at?” Once we figure out where our passions lie, we can ask how they might manifest in a way that meets both our needs and the needs of those around us.

Write It Down

Our goals, intentions and affirmations are important to us, so we should write them down. If this seems challenging, writing for just three minutes each day may make it easier. We may be surprised at how much progress we can make in a very short time. This is the perfect time of year to write out some “realistic” goals to be achieved in 2023!

Along with our written goals, we can also keep something nearby that reminds us of our dreams: a business card to be used in the future, a family photo, even an article of clothing can do the trick! This way, when life gets chaotic or busy, we’ll have that little something staring us in the face, reminding us “why” we do what we do every day.

Visualize It

If we want to achieve something, it’s important to visualize it. In fact, visualization can be a powerful tool in achieving success in many areas of life, and one that can be used by anyone, regardless of age or level of experience. Visualization helps us prepare mentally for what we’re about to do. Visualization techniques can help us let go of limiting beliefs and are often popular among athletes who use them as part of their training regimens.

Create A Vision Board

A vision board is a tool that can help us visualize our dreams. A well-made vision board will include pictures, quotes and words that inspire us. It’s a great way to help us focus on what we want in life and stay motivated to achieve it.
To create a vision board, get some poster board or cardboard. Cut out images from magazines, catalogues or print out inspirational quotes and powerful words in different fonts on different sheets of paper. Don’t forget about inspirational songs too. Make sure everything has a meaning that will lead you toward the achievement of your future goals.

Speak It into Existence

One of the most powerful ways to create what we desire is to “speak it into existence.” This may sound simple, but the power of our spoken words should not be underestimated. When we voice our desires, we’re putting them out there for the Universe to hear. We’re taking responsibility for what we want and making it clear that this is what’s important to us.

The first step is simply getting comfortable hearing ourselves saying our goals out loud, over and over again, if necessary, until it feels natural. Speaking every word with passion and emotion can help. The more invested in achieving something we become, the more invested others will be in supporting us along our path towards success. By not just saying things like “I want,” or “I wish” we should describe in more detail what it will feel like once we have realized our intentions and allow ourselves to experience all the positive emotions that go with it.

Setting intentions should be fun! We know it isn’t necessarily an easy process, but it can be done by anyone who puts their mind and heart into it.
