The Power of Feeling in Finding the Perfect Home
As a real estate broker, my mission is to help my clients find more than just a house—I help them find a home.
Real estate isn’t just about buying property; it’s about connecting with people and helping them find a place that resonates within their heart. My goal is to help my clients find a home that not only meets their needs, but also feels right for them. After all, a house is more than just a financial investment; it’s a place where life happens.
But what does all that really mean? For me, it’s all about the feeling; that indescribable sense of comfort and belonging you get the moment you walk through the door. When you enter a house, you’re looking at buying, you should be able to envision yourself living there, making memories, and feeling at peace. If that feeling isn’t there, then no amount of square footage or updated features will make the place right for you.
Part of the reason I became a real estate broker is because I love making a house a home. Renovating, decorating, and nesting are all ways that light me up when I think about what it takes to truly create a safe and peaceful space. And there’s nothing better than coming home to a place that you have “tailored” just for you.
If you’ve met me, you know that I’m a big feeling kind of person, and I bring those emotions and sensitivity into my real estate practice every day. Being highly sensitive and empathic, those traits aren’t something I can turn on and off at will —they’re part of who I am, and they’re omnipresent. They’ve been with me since I was a kid and despite being called “too sensitive” my whole life, I’ve learned to embrace it. This means that when I’m with my clients, I’m not just thinking about the practical aspects of a property; I’m tuned in to the emotional resonance it might—or might not—have for them. Some people are harder to read than others, but more often than not… I can tell!
Being an empathic broker means I’m always straightforward and honest with my clients, whether the news is good, bad, or somewhere in between. If a house has potential issues, I’ll point them out. If I think it’s a gem, I’ll say that too.
Take my client Kim, for example. Kim is quirky, just like me, which is probably why we get along so well and whenever we go to look at homes together, I always remind her to put on her best poker face. The thing is, Kim doesn’t have a poker face. She couldn’t hide her feelings if she tried. But that’s what I love about her. Her energy and reactions tell me everything I need to know about how she’s feeling about a house. Whether she’s excited, hesitant, or completely uninterested, it’s written all over her face, and that helps me guide her in the right direction.
Working with someone like Kim reminds me why I do what I do. When Kim walks into a house and her face lights up, I know we're onto something special. If I feel that same spark, the whole experience becomes even more fulfilling because I genuinely agree with her choice, and it adds a deeper sense of gratification and purpose to my work.
On the other hand, there are times when a buyer falls in love with a home, but I have my reservations. Maybe it's the location, or I spot potential maintenance concerns that could turn into costly problems down the road. Even though the price may be attractive, I feel it might be a risky choice for them. In such situations, it's important that I voice my concerns thoughtfully and provide guidance, but ultimately, if they decide to move forward, my role is to remain fully supportive. I’m there to ensure they feel confident and well-informed every step of the way.
In the end, it all comes down to the feeling. You either feel it or you don’t, and when it comes to my clients, I’ll always tell the truth each and every time because I value honesty, connection, and above all, the feeling of helping people find the perfect home.
