Episode 4 - The Only Constant is Change

"The only constant is change"

We are creatures of habit. When we find a groove, a routine, a place where we feel comfortable... we tend to want things to stay that way. But as we all know, things never do, and therefore we must adapt to the relentless changes.

Those who are better prepared and better equipped to handle change are more likely to thrive and be happy. Those who struggle with it, or who fear the inevitable ebb and flow of the tides, are less likely to enjoy the ride.

One of the biggest changes we made this year was to move offices. It doesn’t sound like much, but trust me... this was a big deal!

Team Broady had a been a fixture with Royal LePage Elite in Beaconsfield since the dawn of time. Libby started her career back in 1988, and since then had been affiliated with the Beaconsfield franchise. As more of us began to join her in the business, we always remained loyal to the office, the company, and the brand.

You often see real estate brokers who change agencies like they change underwear. One year they're with Remax, then it's Keller Williams, no wait, now it's Sotheby's... it's enough to make your head spin! The constant jumping around is likely due to some form of pain that the broker is experiencing. They're looking for greener pastures and the common misconception is that by changing labels, you'll fix your problem. But the reality is, that's rarely the case.

What I’ve learned through experience is that most of our problems must be solved from within, not by trying to change external forces around us. However, times will come for all of us when a change of environment will serve as a catalyst for growth - rather than just a way of trying to run and hide from a problem.

For us, the decision to change offices wasn't made because of frustration with the management, or a misalignment with the agency or the brand. In fact, we feel so strongly aligned with the Royal LePage brand that we would never consider leaving it.

Royal LePage is a very special kind of company. It has a national identity that’s consistent coast-to-coast. Since joining the company 10 years ago, I’ve made hundreds of new friends with other realtors across Canada. I can literally travel across the country, and likely have a friend to visit, a meal to share, and a place to stay - in just about every city in every province. It’s like one big crazy family!

We also share a deep connection to a common purpose within Royal LePage. One that’s bigger than ourselves, which unites us all. The RLP Shelter Foundation is one of the reasons why we love working for this organization. Every year we collectively raise millions of dollars to support women’s shelters and programs to help put an end to domestic violence. It gives us all a big reason WHY we do what we do.

So, while remaining under the Royal LePage banner, we simply moved to a new physical office location in Pointe-Claire. Considering all the transformation we had undergone as a team, and the new structure we were creating - we knew that a change of environment would do us some good. It would help us to establish a fresh start. A new beginning to a new year, and a new decade.

It was a tough decision at first, and it caused us a great deal of stress to plan and coordinate the move. We couldn’t have done it without the help of Paul Johnson, Greg Clarke, and Jennifer Smith - who went above and beyond in making sure that things were on track for our transition. It’s taken a month or so to get settled in our new space, but we finally feel like we’ve arrived... and it feels pretty darn good!

Team Broady headquarters are now with the Royal LePage Village franchise - located in the Pointe-Claire Plaza where highway 20 intersects with Blvd. St-Jean. We finally have our very own office space with a private conference room where we conduct team meetings and client presentations.

As tough as it can be to embrace change, it can also be extremely rewarding. Sometimes jumping over the garden wall does lead to greener pastures... but you’ll never know until you find the courage to jump.

Signing off...
